The Mechelse Carillon School is ready to brighten up spring and summer with an abundance of carillon news, concerts and competitions. With a varied program, it promises to be a brilliant season for carillon music lovers.
Here is an overview of the upcoming activities:
May 11 – Carillon Day: On Saturday, May 11, the Mechelse Carillon School organizes its annual Carillon Day. The program includes guided tours, introductory lessons, student concerts on the Sint-Romboutstoren and a grand closing concert at the Cultural Centre at 3:30 PM. The concert will be enhanced by the handbell choir Akabella, the 20-year-old children's class and performances on the chamber carillon.
May 27 – Final Project Presentations: On Monday, May 27, graduating students will present their final projects at the Carillon School from 5:00 PM.
June 8 – Chamber Carillon Final Exam: On Saturday, June 8, four students will perform their final exam on the chamber carillon in the Sinte-Mettetuin and the concert carillon of the Sint-Romboutstoren.
Summer Series of Carillon Concerts: Starting Monday evening, June 3 at 8:30 PM, the summer series of carillon concerts begins on the Sint-Romboutstoren, with a listening area on the Culture Square. The series will end on Monday, September 9.
Concerts from the Onze-Lieve-Vrouw-over-de-Dijlekerk Church: Two concerts are scheduled from the Onze-Lieve-Vrouw-over-de-Dijlekerk Church on Sunday afternoons, September 1 and 8 at 4:30 PM.
Ninth International Queen Fabiola Carillon Competition: From July 10-14, 2024, the Ninth International Queen Fabiola Carillon Competition takes place in Mechelen.
All activities, ranging from final project presentations to summer carillon concerts, are free and accessible to everyone. Only for the final day of the Fabiola competition do we charge an admission fee.
