Building on the artistic tradition initiated by ceramicist Max van der Linden, the International Music Festival was founded in 2016 under the direction of artistic director Irina Lankova. The festival is unique in its kind. It aims to invite the general public to participate in top-quality events with internationallyrenowned artists in a warm atmosphere.Over three weekends in March, concerts, spectacles, master classes and workshops are programmed at various times. The 4th Edition will take place from March 15 to 30, 2019, with the theme: Echology. The spirit of the festival: "At the heart of a village"
53 years ago, Max van der Linden created Belgium's first artist trail in Tourinnes-la-Grosse. His goal was to build a bridge between the rural world and art. The Festival Max van der Linden continues his work today by bringing musical excellence to the heart of the villages of Tourinnes-la-Grosse, Bevekom and Nodebais. A diverse audience, socio-culturally mixed and comprising both French and Dutch speakers, come together to experience emotionally charged moments. The concerts, spectacles, master classes and workshops take place in the Church of Saint-Martin in Tourinnes-la-Grosse (a Romanesque church from the 10th century, classified as an exceptional historical monument and renowned for its acoustics), and in the Théâtre des 4-mains in Bevekom.
"Excellence"
In 2019, the festival is pleased to welcome the following artists: The Royal Chamber Orchestra of Wallonia, Franck Braley, Lorenzo Gatto, Michel Lethiec, soloists from the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel, Tatiana Samouil, Collectif Kahraba (Lebanon), La Salamandre (France), Nicolas Dupont, Luc Tooten, Marc Tooten as well as the festival's artistic director, Irina Lankova.
Inclusive
Accessible to a broad audience, with democratic ticket prices (€18, €13 reduced rate, workshops €5). Every year a family spectacle is also programmed, as well as a concert for schoolchildren from the municipality. Inclusion also means giving disadvantaged people the opportunity to attend rehearsals.
The International Music Festival Max van der Linden also offers young musicians the opportunity to perform for an audience. In 2019, young soloists from the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel will give an extraordinary concert to further emphasize this special aspect of the festival.
Educational
Young Soloists
Every year guided tours of Max van der Linden's works are organized. In 2019, the screening of a previously unreleased film will be shown on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of his death. Since 2018, the Festival has been involved in artistic education through an educational school project. Pedagogical meetings will be organized in the schools of the municipality and a concert will be organized for an audience of more than 200 children. From 2019 onwards, Master classes for young musicians will be organized, open to the public. The 2019 edition offers an Earth workshop on March 24, following the spectacle 'Geology of a Fable'. Under the guidance of an ornithologist, interested participants can listen to birdsong on March 17 at 6:43 am.
Multidisciplinary
Classical music is the foundation of our programming, but an openness to collaborations with other art forms and musical styles is very important to us. In 2019, the actors of Collectif Kahraba will work with 80 kilos of clay on stage during the spectacle 'Geology of a Fable' to the sounds of world music. For the closing concert on the theme of Fire, the company La Salamandre (masters of fire, France) will bring a poetic creation before and during the concert.
