"The Ayres We Breathe" contains English lute songs from the 16th and 17th centuries, but also melodious instrumental pieces or fantasias from that period, which are also called "ayre." Johann Sebastian Bach's third English Suite closes out the English program with a wink. Recorder player Hester Groenleer and harpsichordist Matthias Havinga explore works by Playford, Lawes, Purcell, and Locke. "Deare, if you change" is a song by John Dowland, the father of the ayres.
