César Guerra-Peixe was one of the most versatile Brazilian musicians of the 20th century, whose extensive work for radio, television and film gave him a special mastery of orchestration and created his own inimitable sound. The driving dance rhythms and lyrical expressivity of his two Symphonic Suites were inspired by his exploration of Brazilian folk traditions and enriched by a broad range of lively and eloquent worldwide influences. The cheerful Roda de Amigos is a mischievous caricature of Guerra-Peixe's musical circle of friends and his various woodwind instruments.
