These chamber music works from 1915 to 1946 reveal Giorgio Federico Ghedini in his private studio, where the study of early models serves as material transformed into the language of the 20th century. Luciano Berio saw in Ghedini a bridge between Italy's vocal-instrumental Baroque and modernism. The Sette Ricercari, composed during the war, reconsider the ricercare as a contrapuntal and tonal exploration, achieving mirrored fugal forms; the Canoni touch on twelve-tone technique while maintaining an inner cantabile quality. The Elegia drammatica is recorded here for the first time.
