Sandra divides her time between scientific research into melting ice caps and stand-up comedy. Disturbed by her recent discoveries about the effects of human activity on the environment, she tries to make people aware of what is happening through humor. However, her immediate surroundings, even her own family, react skeptically. Just as Cassandra in Greek mythology announced the fall of Troy in vain, no one listens to her warnings of the tragedy that is looming.
Why do we ignore the future while it stares us in the face? How can you convince people if they don't want to listen? For his first opera, Belgian composer Bernard Foccroulle chose a topical theme: ecological activism that crashes against the inertia of society. With a particularly evocative score, conducted by Kazushi Ono, and with sets that alternately take us to a vast library, a beehive and the heart of a glacier, Cassandra forms a powerful and poetic opener of the new opera season.
