The VZW Jong artistiek talent concludes the 2023-2024 season with a special musical experience, presented by the saxophone quartet Øsimun Quartet. This ensemble, consisting of four young, talented musicians from Spain, has quickly established itself in the world of Classical Music.
The string quartet, with its rich history and diversity of timbres, has long been known as a pillar of classical music. In a similar spirit, the saxophone quartet offers a window into the versatility and richness of the woodwinds, even though the saxophone, invented in the mid-19th century by Adolphe Sax, is a relatively young member of the musical family. The repertoire for the saxophone and the saxophone quartet is therefore also of more recent date, which provides room for innovation and exploration.
The Øsimun Quartet, specialized in the different voices of the saxophone quartet - from soprano to alto, tenor and finally the baritone saxophone - has a fresh and dynamic approach. Their program for us includes transcriptions and original works by composers such as Haydn, Glazunov, Bozza, Maslanka, and contemporary composer Joan Pérez Villegas. Their choice for a wide range of musical pieces reflects not only their technical proficiency but also their ability to fully exploit the expressive potential of their ensemble.
The southern temperament of these musicians, combined with their virtuosity and cohesion as a quartet, guarantees a concert that promises to be not only a worthy conclusion to the season but also a celebration of our 100th concert evening. The Øsimun Quartet offers us an original and captivating musical experience, which puts the versatility and beauty of the saxophone quartet in the spotlight. The performance takes place on 17 March 2024 at 11 o'clock in the Auditorium of the municipal Conservatorium in Hasselt. Admission is €14, children under 12 years are admitted free.
