In the intimate piano works of the VL series, gentle chromatic lines unfold like folk melodies from childhood memories—fragments that his mother once sang in the wooden house in Druskininkai. This is followed by a series of variation cycles on songs about nature, love, life, and motherhood, all composed with the simplicity of oral tradition yet nuanced with an increasingly modern harmonic language. In these 35 pieces, pianist Geert Callaert enters Čiurlionis' dual universe of sound and vision with effortless tenderness and structural balance.
