The eighth volume of the complete recording of Giovanni Morandi's organ works sheds light on the Italian organ of the early 19th century, which existed between liturgical use, theatrical taste, and the renewal of organ music. Two other sonata collections for the modern organ unfold a broad palette of sounds and an almost orchestral sense of space, yet remain subject to the mass as a formal framework. Theater doesn't impose itself, but is guided along ritualistic lines. There are also three works to be heard inspired by Christmas: Pastorale, Nuova Pastorale, and Sinfonia in Pastorale.
