"L'Italiana in Londra" was Domenico Cimarosa's first international success, and its 1778 premiere captivated audiences throughout Europe. The opera was later overshadowed by the triumph of "Matrimonio segreto" and remains a rarity on the stage today.

The lighthearted "Intermezzo in musica" is set in a London hotel and features refined arias, duets, and ensembles that drive the plot, centering on thwarted love, quarrels, and misunderstandings.

Director R.B. Schlather staged the work at the Frankfurt Opera as a charming, sophisticated, and hilarious romantic comedy.

Domenico Cimarosa, one of the last great representatives of the Neapolitan school, was one of the most performed opera composers before Gioachino Rossini. He composed more than 60 works and was celebrated from Venice to St. Petersburg, where he was appointed to the Russian court. "L'Italiana in Londra" is a charming and refined intermezzo that demonstrates an incredible grasp of comic situations and characters, satirizing various cultural stereotypes that are just as recognizable today as they were in the 18th century. Humor and wit abound in this acclaimed production.
