This recording explores the musical world of the Laudesi confraternities, which were active around 1500 in the Venetian region, and their rich repertoire of Italian devotional songs. These works often venerate the Virgin Mary and the Passion of Christ, and are characterized by an aesthetic deeply rooted in popular piety. They frequently combine homophonic compositional technique with a direct expressivity aimed at ordinary people and influenced by Franco-Flemish song. Le Miroir de Musique draws inspiration from the musicians of the Scuole Grandi in the Venetian Renaissance and creates a sonic world at the intersection of spirituality and emerging humanism.
