French-American singer Rosemary Standley follows up her successful album Love I Obey here and turns to German Romanticism after the Baroque. For her project with Sandrine Piau and the Ensemble Contraste, she has selected some of the best-known and most popular songs and instrumental pieces by Franz Schubert. In arrangements by Johan Farjot and with guests such as jazz trumpeter Airelle Besson, guitarist Kevin Seddiki and drummer Jean-Luc di Fraja, she anchors his music in the rhythms and traditions of foreign lands. There is probably no more emphatic way to refute the cliché of Schubert as a well-behaved Biedermeier composer.
