On the eve of the Belgian EU Presidency (2024), the Alamire Foundation and Brussels Airlines join forces to promote the magnificent musical heritage of the Low Countries internationally. They aim to make centuries-old Franco-Flemish polyphony as well-known as the paintings from the same period, such as the work of Jan Van Eyck and Hans Memling.
Thanks to this cooperation, audiovisual productions (alamire.tv documentaries) from the Alamire Foundation will be visible and audible on all intercontinental flights of Brussels Airlines via the Inflight Entertainment Program. During their flight, passengers will be able to discover the work of the renaissance music calligrapher Petrus Alamire, the recently discovered Leuven Chansonnier, the unique dance booklet written in gold and silver by Margaretha of Austria from the Royal Library of Brussels, a canon printed on a linen tablecloth as a gift for Maria of Hungary, and docu-concerts about the beautiful polyphonic masses of Franco-Flemish polyphonist Josquin des Prez.
The Alamire Foundation has been working for more than 30 years on the study, accessibility and valorization of this musical heritage from the Low Countries. As a centre of excellence, the Alamire Foundation has built an international reputation through publications, conferences, concerts, festivals, exhibitions and audiovisual productions. General Director Bart Demuyt is particularly enthusiastic about the cooperation with Brussels Airlines: "The musical heritage created in our region in the 15th and 16th centuries is of excellent quality and testifies to outstanding craftsmanship. We are already sharing the results of our research and disseminating it through the multimedia platform alamire.tv. However, as ambassadors of polyphony, it is our task to spread this beautiful heritage as widely as possible. The Alamire Foundation and Brussels Airlines are joining forces and together bringing our cultural heritage to the world."
