The 25th Kreuzkantor Rudolf Mauersberger, born in 1889 in the Erzgebirge, made it his life's work to perform the complete surviving works of Heinrich Schütz - his artistic achievements set standards in the history of the interpretation of the composer's works at a time when reliable Schütz editions were not yet in sight.
As a brilliant music teacher, he led the Dresdner Kreuzchor - which he took over as director in 1931 - into a remarkable sound instrument and into one of the most traditional and best boys' choirs in Germany with an international reputation.
As Mauersberger's successor, Martin Flämig also rendered excellent services to the Dresdner Kreuzchor and he is also represented in this edition with interpretations of various works by Schütz.
The box consists of 10 CDs and offers reference recordings of all central works such as the Psalmen Davids, the Cantiones sacrae, the Auferstehungshistorie, the Kleinen geistlichen Konzerte and, last but not least, the Passies.
