De Munt sells its costumes

For the first time in ten years, La Monnaie is organising a costume sale. Everything that can be seen on the Muntpodium stage has been made in-house by the skilled hands of our shoemakers, set builders and costume designers. For several years now, we have been working in the most ecologically responsible way in both offices and workshops, which, in the case of costumes, means being very selective about the fabrics we work with, washing the costumes with the most biodegradable soap and storing every costume. This storage is not only important for possible revivals: we also archive the most iconic costumes and reuse a great deal of material for subsequent costumes. That we not only focus on costume creation but also consider preservation important is evident from the costume reserve we inaugurated in 2021 on the roof of our workshop building. Nevertheless, we occasionally have to organise a costume sale to prevent our costume storage facilities from bursting at the seams. We opt for a sale because it not only reduces waste, but also gives our subscribers, Friends and other fashion enthusiasts something from these unique creations.

That it is quite unique to be able to buy a costume, accessory or pair of shoes from, say, Aida, Foxie, Tannhäuser or Lucrezia Borgia needs no further explanation. Prices range from 1 to 160 euros, and each prospective buyer may purchase a maximum of eight items. We see this stock sale as an additional way to open our doors to as broad an audience as possible. After all, you do not need to be an opera lover to appreciate handmade, magnificent costumes.

For safety reasons, the number of people allowed is limited and we work with different time slots: you can reserve a maximum of 2 tickets for a specific arrival time between 9:00 and 19:00 (last entry at 17:00)
