For its sixth edition, LUNALIA, the spring festival of the Festival van Vlaanderen Mechelen, once again takes over Mechelen's city center and, together with its partners, arts center nona and Cultuurcentrum Mechelen, presents a rich and adventurous program.
The festival motto You'll never be alone anymore, taken from a 1975 composition by Flemish composer Karel Goeyvaerts (1923 – 1993), sets a beacon of hope and puts a finger on the wound of our time: loneliness. In an extended ode to Goeyvaerts' groundbreaking work, the program navigates intimate recitals, challenging non-European sounds, and contemporary music theater. True to its DNA, the festival explores diverse styles, genres, and forms. Alongside concerts and performances, a pop-up exhibition and a documentary-concert are on the agenda, I SOLISTI performs as ensemble in residence, and the festival once again welcomes resident artists from previous editions. Both Sigrid Hausen (artist in residence 2018), Reinoud Van Mechelen (artist in residence 2019) and Floris de Rycker with his Ratas del viejo Mundo, return to Mechelen with new projects.
