Matthieu Idmtal
Matthieu Idmtal (Brussels, October 8, 1988) is a Belgian pianist.
Matthieu Idmtal began taking piano lessons at age six and studied respectively with Frima Nakhimovitch, Maria Andreeva, and Vitaly Samoshko. He won prizes at several music competitions including a third prize at the International Music Competition in Verona, a second prize at the piano competition 'Grand Dominique' in 2011 in Venlo and as a piano duo with Anastasia Kozhusho a 3rd prize at 'Concorso Internazionale Premio Franz Schubert' in Sale San Giovanni. In 2012 this piano duo won the Youth 'n Classic Competition in Zürich and received the audience prize at the international chamber music competition in Almere.
In 2017 Idmtal was awarded 'Supernova', a prize presented by Belgian music programmers, in collaboration with Klara and Musiq'3. Idmtal has since performed in Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Great Britain, Switzerland and Latvia.
Together with violinist Maya Levi he recorded the violin sonatas of Edvard Grieg. In 2018 his first solo CD appeared, entirely devoted to music by Aleksandr Skrjiabin. In 2021 his second solo CD appeared, dedicated to music by Edvard Grieg.
Matthieu Idmtal has considerable focus on (post-)Romantic music, and is credited with original and poetic interpretations.
