The International Opera Awards 2025, often called the Oscars of opera, were presented on November 13, 2025 in Athens, where the Greek National Opera served as the backdrop for a prestigious ceremony. Alain Altinoglu, who has been the music director of La Monnaie for ten years, was named best opera conductor. Unfortunately, Alain Altinoglu was unable to attend the awards show, but he did send a video message (see the YouTube clip below).
Christina Scheppelmann accepted on his behalf and delivered the following message on behalf of the honored conductor: "This award is a wonderful recognition of the many artistic successes and musical highlights that Alain has achieved over the past year, both within our opera house and beyond. We are thinking primarily of the Ring cycle and our season opener Falstaff, but also of the various concerts that are consistently met with great enthusiasm from the audience. Alain distinguishes himself as a conductor through his exceptional musical talents and his unwavering enthusiasm, with which he inspires both orchestra members and soloists to deliver outstanding performances. We heartily congratulate him on this well-deserved honor and are proud to share this success with him. We also extend our sincere congratulations to all the other winners of the International Opera Awards 2025."
Klassiek Centraal is pleased to add its congratulations to those rightfully bestowed upon the conductor.
