Cimarosa Cultural Travel vzw organizes trips for lovers of classical music. Our travel destination is always a city where a renowned festival takes place. Each trip is accompanied by a musicologist. For the second half of 2023, we have both classic destinations and completely new, surprising locations. These are the trips:
In July, Klaas Coulembier will guide us to the Collegium Vocale Crete Senesi festival. The Collegium Vocale Ghent and Philippe Herreweghe bring us musical pearls spanning four centuries. From Cypriano de Rore to Jean-Luc Fafchamps. As always, renowned names accompany the Collegium: members of the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, Het Collectief – Lore Binon, Paul Lewis, Dietrich Henschel, Piet Kuijken, Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Zehetmaier Quartet, Mala Punica, Rafael Fingerlos, Sascha El Mouissi…
In August, Stephan Weytjens takes us to the Musikfest Berlin. In the impressive hall of the Philharmonie, we attend performances of Mahler's Seventh Symphony by the Amsterdam Concertgebouw Orchestra and Mahler's Ninth Symphony by the London Symphony Orchestra.
In September we organize, in collaboration with Festival 20.21, an exclusive concert trip to Normandy and Honfleur, the birthplace of Erik Satie. Pieter Bergé designed this trip as a prelude to Satie Day at his Leuven Festival 20.21 in October. For the musical part, Cimarosa calls on pianists Jan Michiels and Inge Spinette who will accompany us as true court musicians on this journey.
In October we cross with Nicole Van Opstal the Irish Sea to opera festival in Wexford. This charming town on Ireland's southeast coast is hosting its 72ndst edition of a renowned annual opera festival. We'll discover lesser-known operas such as Zoraida di Granata by Gaetano Donizetti (1822), L'aube rouge by Camille Erlanger (1911) and La Ciociara by Marco Tutino (2015).
For daytime cultural visits, we've selected excursions to renowned museums, artistic treasures and monasteries, as well as hidden architectural and artistic gems, nature walks, and opportunities to savor the finer things in life.
