Nuala McKenna appointed new cellist of Delta Piano Trio

After more than a decade filled with beautiful musical adventures, concerts, and deep friendship, the Delta Piano Trio has decided to part ways with their talented cellist, Irene Enzlin. Throughout all these years, Irene, Gerard, and Vera have shared an unforgettable journey, filled with musical highlights and unforgettable moments. Although saying goodbye is difficult, they look back with gratitude on the time they shared together and are determined to explore new paths. As a new chapter in the trio's history begins, they proudly welcome Nuala McKenna as their new cellist. Below is the trio's own introduction.

"For 10 years we've had wonderful adventures, tours, concerts, rehearsals, and friendship. I truly enjoyed having Gerard and Vera by my side throughout my entire twenties. It's been an amazing time where we all learned so much from each other. I will never forget the time we spent together!" – Irene Enzlin

After working together for over 10 years with great pleasure, our cellist Irene Enzlin has decided to focus on projects outside the trio. This means our paths are parting ways and Irene will be leaving the trio.

We founded and built the Delta Piano Trio together more than ten years ago, and in all those years, our lineup never changed. What an incredible journey we've had. From our first rehearsals and lessons as students in Salzburg to international competitions and concert tours, rehearsing in stuffy practice rooms, wandering through Chinese airports, eating donuts in a cramped New York hotel room, always traveling with a dog, instruments, and suitcases, laughing our heads off whenever something went wrong.

For 10 years we shared joys and sorrows, and we will sorely miss making music with Irene. Fortunately, we still see each other regularly and remain close friends. We wish Irene much success and happiness with all her new projects and the very best for the future.

We are delighted and proud to introduce the German-Irish cellist Nuala McKenna to you as the brand-new cellist of the Delta Piano Trio. We met Nuala a few months ago and were immediately struck by her fantastic playing, her passion for chamber music, her energy, and her infectious joy in making music. From the first note, we felt a strong musical connection and greatly enjoyed our first concerts together.

Nuala grew up in northern Germany, studied in Lübeck, Freiburg, and Basel, and has lived in Amsterdam since 2013. She toured all the major Dutch concert halls as a finalist of the Dutch Classical Talent Award and has collaborated with musicians such as Maria João Pires, Jean-Guihen Queyras, and the Talich Quartet. For her debut CD, Nuala received prestigious awards such as the 'Diapason d'Or' and 'La Clef D'Or ResMusica'; last year she released a successful second CD featuring various 20th-century works for cello and piano. Since 2019, Nuala has been appointed as principal cellist of the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen and combines this position with performances as a soloist and chamber musician.

We look forward to this new chapter for the trio and all the beautiful musical adventures that lie ahead.

On Monday evening, April 29 we will officially present the new lineup of the Delta Piano Trio to the public for the first time. It promises to be a special evening, featuring on the music stand among others the beautiful Variations Op. 44 by Beethoven, Schumann's first Piano Trio, and Schubert's Notturno. After the concert, there will be a pleasant reception where the audience will have the opportunity to meet our new cellist.
