Zygmunt Noskowski, the influential Polish conductor and composer, is better known for his role as teacher and mentor to later luminaries such as Karol Szymanowski and Mieczyslaw Karlowicz – and for his collaboration with Stanislaw Moniuszko – than for his own compositions. But for much of the 19th century, he was Poland's leading exponent of modern music, and his works form a central part of the Polish tradition. Following the Capriccio recordings of his symphonies, this album presents some of his string quartets and once again reveals a sonorous picture book of Polish Romanticism.

The Meccore String Quartet was founded in 2007 and is renowned throughout Europe and beyond. It has won numerous awards, including for its recordings of, for example, the string quartets of Pyotr Tchaikovsky and Edvard Grieg.
