In all humility, I write this as a devoted admirer of Trudelies Leonhardt. In the year she celebrates her 95th birthday on May 30th, this stunning recording is released, performed on an original Aloys Moser fortepiano from 1796!

Mozart's Fantaisie in D minor, K 397 sounds fresh, intensely inhabited and moving. In the Sonata in B-flat major, K 281 sing Andante amoroso and Rondo Allegro with tender ease and almost divine subtlety. The Rondo in D major, K 485 is a pure marvel: clear, lively, natural.

Haydn also touches the heart: the Adagio in F major breathes quiet poetry; the Sonata in D Major, Hob. XVI/37 surprises with clarity, tranquility, and playful vitality. Like her 35 previous—often award-winning—recordings: a CD worth returning to again and again. An enchanting, pure tribute to Mozart and Haydn, and to the life's work of this 'grande dame' of the fortepiano.
