Kerson Leong, winner of the 2010 Yehudi Menuhin International Violin Competition, and Jonathan Fournel, winner of the 2021 Grand Prix at the Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition, have each released different albums on Alpha Classics. As long-standing musical partners and friends, they have now come together for a joint project centered on the music of Gabriel Fauré: "His music evokes images of the night, shimmering water, and solace for me. He is one of the composers I always return to when seeking a sense of comfort," says Kerson Leong. Jonathan Fournel adds: "There is something deeply human in his music." They have chosen to record his two violin sonatas – works written at opposite ends of his creative period – supplemented by a selection of transcriptions of well-known melodies and smaller pieces such as the famous Berceuse, Clair de lune, Après un rêve, and Soir.
