This double CD presents the five cello sonatas by Ludwig van Beethoven, recorded by cellist Paul Watkins and pianist Alessio Bax. The works were composed over a long period and illustrate Beethoven's early, middle, and late styles, from the sonatas op. 5, written during his stay in Berlin in 1796, to the A major sonata op. 69 from the time of the 5th and 6th symphonies, to the sonatas op. 102, which mark the beginning of his final creative period.
