This compilation – a follow-up to the 3-CD set "The Many Loves of Antonín Dvořák" (jpc 10716656) – is a reminder of the wealth and sheer diversity of talented Czech composers who emerged from Dvořák's masterclass at the Prague Conservatory in the 1890s and early 1900s. Dvořák, who was approaching fifty and at the height of his fame, was persuaded to devote some of his time to teaching at the Conservatory, thereby creating a lasting legacy—an influential "Dvořák school" of composers, several of whom later taught at the Conservatory themselves and passed the tradition on to future generations.

Josef Suk, Dvořák's student who left behind the most original compositional legacy, naturally takes up the most space. English music journalist Patrick Lambert, an eminent expert in Czech music with in-depth knowledge of the Supraphon catalog, selected the music for the CD box and wrote the informative notes in the booklet.
