Wide Range
Basel was a center of choral music in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The selection of works on the album Silent Light traces the development of this vocal high culture with compositions by musicians who worked in and around Basel. The older pieces were composed in the 1850s, while the more recent ones were written during the cultural renaissance of the 1920s and early 1930s. Raphael Immoos and his vocal ensemble Basel Madrigalists present a vivid picture of the broad spectrum of late Romantic vocal music in the Swiss city on the Rhine.
