Conductor Robert Trevino's second album featuring orchestral works by Ottorino Respighi (1879-1936), recorded with the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI, showcases Respighi's powerful orchestral masterpiece, the "Sinfonia Drammatica". Respighi's "Sinfonia Drammatica" is a large-scale symphony reminiscent of Strauss with a runtime of over 60 minutes. Various critics have pointed out similarities to César Franck's Symphony in D minor, particularly regarding its cyclical structure, while echoes of Richard Strauss and Rimsky-Korsakov can be heard throughout the piece, not only in the orchestration but also in the contours of certain melodic lines. And although Wagner is generally not seen as one of Respighi's major sources of inspiration, the influence of the German composer is palpable.
