With Seelenfrieden, tenor Martin Platz, the Lautten Compagney Berlin and its artistic director Wolfgang Katschner present a striking recording of sacred music from the 17th century. The program combines vocal and instrumental works by Johann Philipp Krieger, Heinrich Schütz, Andreas Hammerschmidt, Dietrich Buxtehude, Johann Rosenmüller, and Johann Theile – composers who, in an era of profound social, political, and religious upheaval, sought musical expressions of comfort, trust, and inner reflection. At the heart of the album are psalm settings and sacred concerti whose texts touch on fundamental existential questions: fear and dread, laments and pleas, but also confidence, faith in God, and hope.
