Anton Reicha's experimental spirit anticipated certain phenomena of 20th-century music (such as minimalism and microtonal intervals). Only now, in the 21st century, is his name becoming more widely recognized, without the need to constantly invoke his inspiring friendship with Beethoven or reference his better-known Paris students such as Berlioz, Gounod, or Franck. With this recording, the outstanding Trio Bohemo finally celebrates Reicha's Piano Trios Op. 101 in a worthy reference recording that does justice to the interpretive and technical quality of the music – 202 years after the first printed edition in 1824. In this music, the composer's visionary imagination anticipates the full-blooded Romanticism of Robert Schumann and his contemporaries. Trio Bohemo received considerable acclaim and rave reviews for their 2024 Supraphon debut with piano trios by Smetana and Schubert (SU4344).
