Selim Palmgren was one of the most celebrated pianist-composers in the years leading up to the end of World War I. His extensive body of piano works, much of which remains unknown, is presented in this acclaimed series, performed by Jouni Somero, the foremost modern interpreter of the Finnish composer. This release features the virtuosic and demanding Fantasia, Op. 6 , one of Palmgren's most captivating works, as well as examples of music steeped in impressionism and Nordic folklore. Miniatures are also included, among them études, waltzes, and pieces with a Chopinesque charm.
