Among the remarkable sacred compositions of Orlando di Lasso (1532-1594) are his unique and atmospheric settings of the Proper parts of the Mass for the feasts of Christmas, Easter, Pentecost, and Corpus Christi, which were first published as Officia aliquot de praecipuis festis anni in 1574. In this recording project, the Propers (polyphonic settings of the specific liturgical texts belonging to each feast) – Introit, Alleluia, Sequence, Communion – appear in the correct chronological order and are interspersed with movements from some of Orlando di Lasso's lesser-known yet beautifully composed masses. On the second CD in the series, the Lassus Chamber Choir, conducted by Ite O'Donovan, presents the magnificent settings for Pentecost. The next release of this project featuring Christmas music is scheduled for October this year.
