Leokadiya Kashperova was Igor Stravinsky's piano teacher and studied under Anton Rubinstein herself, yet her compositions have remained overshadowed by those of the great male masters to this day. A fate shared by many women of her era. Though her body of work is far less extensive than that of her composing contemporaries, these few pieces nonetheless testify to incredible talent, mature craftsmanship, and a deeply romantic, Russian voice so characteristic of that period.

On this album, the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Anna Skryleva performs two works by Leokadiya Kashperova: her Concerto for Piano and Orchestra in A minor and her Symphony in B minor. Skryleva is a Russia-born German pianist, composer, and conductor. She serves as General Music Director of Magdeburg Theater.
