The project "Il violone impertinente" seeks to create a spark with this curious baroque double bass repertoire by tracing these pieces back to their original sources, drawing on manuscripts and early printed editions, and employing historically informed performance practice by performing them on a double bass that is a copy of an old instrument with a baroque frame.

These pieces take on a new character that clearly differs from that of a modern double bass, particularly through the specific tonal qualities of this type of instrument: thinner, less taut gut strings, a different fingerboard, and other less obvious differences in the instrument's construction and the use of a baroque bow made of different wood with a different curve, which produces its own sound. It's as if a violist from that era, who defied the conventions that confined him solely to a supporting role, rebelled against these circumstances and wanted to prove his ambitions as a soloist, even as a virtuoso.

As everyone knows, the art of imitation was very much alive and widespread throughout the baroque period.
