In the musical world of the Berlin court in the mid-18th century, Christoph Schaffrath held a remarkable position. As a highly esteemed keyboard player, he initially worked in the circle of Frederick the Great's court and later served for many years as harpsichordist to Princess Anna Amalia, the music-loving sister of the king. Schaffrath's music exemplifies the stylistic transition of the mid-18th century: it combines the structural clarity and contrapuntal discipline of the late Baroque with the melodic elegance and emotional expressivity of the galant style. In this recording, Polish harpsichordist Anna Firlus, together with the historically-informed ensemble {oh} Orkiestra Historyczna conducted by Martyna Pastuszka, delivers a vibrant interpretation of these rarely heard works, showcasing the elegance and expressive versatility of Schaffrath's concerto style in impressive fashion.
