With their new release, the vocal ensemble VocaMe dedicates itself to a unique chapter in medieval cultural history: the previously unrecorded works of 13th-century Beguine mystic Hadewijch of Brabant. In close collaboration with Belgian scholars, a program has been created that impressively connects historical research with artistic imagination. Hadewijch's Old Flemish texts and songs are surprisingly sensual; the eternal quest for love is reflected in nature, in springtime, in the movement of the heavens. The music ranges from quiet and melancholic to lively and passionate, with rhythmically accented passages. The vocal ensemble is accompanied by selected medieval instruments.
This album is more than a musical reconstruction – it is a poetic approach to one of the most fascinating voices from the Middle Ages. Hadewijch's vision of love appears here not as an abstract concept, but as a vivid, deeply human experience: sensual, contradictory, and timelessly relevant.
