Since John Wilson relaunched Sinfonia of London in 2018, his carefully curated orchestra has earned widespread acclaim from national and international press, performing at the BBC Proms every year since their 2021 live debut and making their international debut at Amsterdam's Concertgebouw in 2025. They tour regularly throughout the United Kingdom and have released 25 albums (this is their 26th) featuring a broad and varied repertoire ranging from Sergei Rachmaninoff to Rodgers & Hammerstein.

In 19th and early 20th-century France, opera and ballet dominated the musical landscape, and French orchestral music was far more poetic and narrative-driven than the contrasting German symphonic tradition. Master orchestrators like Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel drew extraordinary colors and textures from the symphony orchestra, turning their works into beloved favorites with audiences worldwide.
