In late 2024, Stef Paglia was presented with a challenge: Jelle Dierickx (former director of Festival van Vlaanderen Mechelen/Kempen) asked him to compose a contemporary interpretation of John Dowland. With Stef's background as a blues/rock guitarist, this was quite an undertaking. He decided not to create a copy of Dowland's work, but instead drew inspiration from his melancholic soundscapes. The result is an instrumental meditation on electric guitar, a unique blend of classical influences and modern soundscapes.
Listeners are invited to step into a world of echoes from the past resonating on the electric guitar.
The project premiered in 2025 during the Lunalia Lift Off at the Predikherenkerk in Mechelen. From September 4, 2026, it will also be available to listen to digitally everywhere.
