Each disc of this double album features a work of 33 variations by Franz Hummel. On one hand, he felt challenged by Beethoven's Diabelli Variations and composed 33 variations on the same theme himself. During a memorial concert in Riedenburg following Hummel's death on August 20, 2022, his three master students Yojo Christen, Christoph Preiss, and Alexander Maria Wagner performed these variations with such vitality and reinterpreted them anew that the desire arose to capture this experience on CD. The second CD contains the Hercher Variations, composed by Franz Hummel between 2017 and 2019 and recorded by Christoph Preiss. What's particularly noteworthy is that apart from these two works by Hummel, there are very few cycles with 30 or more variations to be found in the familiar piano literature.
