Violist Miclen LaiPang makes his solo debut at Delos with a deeply personal recital. Drawing on music that has accompanied him throughout his life, "Deep River" charts a path through the styles and places that have shaped his journey. Like a flowing stream, this program winds from its source through diverse landscapes, crossing borders and opening itself to new encounters along the way. It reflects a life marked by movement between countries, cultures, and musical worlds. Works like "Deep River" and "Nobody Knows de Trouble I've Seen" echo the sounds of home and represent Miclen's youth and the United States, while Dedication, Liebesleid, and the Rosenkavalier waltzes are tied to his time in Germany and Austria, and Ravel's Violin Sonata No. 2 connects to his current home in France. Together with pianist Nigel Yandell, Miclen will perform on the Antonio Stradivari violin "Charles Castleman, ex-Marquis de Champeaux," generously loaned to him by the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel.
