Four important composers – François Couperin, Antoine Forqueray, Marin Marais, and Jean-Philippe Rameau – are brought together here in a kind of musical comparison. Through a series of musical portraits, Myriam Rignol, Yoko Kawakubo, and Julien Wolfs showcase different aspects of their oeuvre.

The pieces range from Couperin's restrained elegance through Forqueray's expressive language to Marais' characteristic viol playing and Rameau's striking sonority; each piece sketches its own musical profile. The ensemble Les Timbres performs these works in a balanced, clear style. In doing so, connections between the composers also emerge, expressed through mutual allusions and dedications. In this way, the repertoire is placed in a contemporary context, creating a broad, nuanced expressive spectrum.
