In 1747, Johann Sebastian Bach received an invitation from King Frederick II of Prussia. Bach traveled with Wilhelm Friedemann, his eldest son, to Potsdam, where Carl Philipp Emanuel, his second-eldest son, worked as a harpsichordist at the royal court. This was the famous visit where Johann Sebastian improvised a ricercar or fugue for three voices on a theme from the king, which later inspired him to compose the Musical Offering. This recording presents fragments from Bach's Musical Offering, including the Trio Sonata, alongside trios by Wilhelm Friedemann and Carl Philipp Emanuel. The aim is to shed light on the family character of Bach's visit to Potsdam and Berlin in 1747 and its musical consequences. The significance of this meeting between the three most celebrated members of the Bach family and its influence on their respective lives and careers cannot be overstated.
