Cappella Amsterdam

Cappella Amsterdam is a professional chamber choir founded in 1970 by Jan Boeke. Since 1990, the choir has been under the artistic direction of Daniel Reuss. It has approximately twenty-five members.

Cappella Amsterdam has devoted itself to both modern and old singing techniques and emphasizes old masters and modern music in its repertoire. The choir pays considerable attention to Dutch composers. Works by Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck and Lassus regularly appear on the program, and alongside these, modern compositions—often specially written for the ensemble—are performed by, among others, Ton de Leeuw, Robert Heppener, Peter Schat, Jan van Vlijmen, Klaas de Vries, Peter-Jan Wagemans and Hans Koolmees. Choral music by foreign composers is also frequently performed. A CD released in 2008 featuring music by Heppener and Ligeti was awarded a French distinction, the Diapason d'or, or Golden Tuning Fork. In 2015, a CD with choral works by Brahms, including an arrangement for four-hand piano of the Schicksalslied, was awarded the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik. In 2009, the choir was awarded the VSCD Classical Music Prize in the Small Ensemble category. In 2018, it received the VSCD Classical Music Prize once again (now called "De Ovatie").
