Katia & Marielle Labèque – Wild is the Wind

The Labèque sisters bring forgotten female composers into dialogue with classical and jazz. Miniatures and large-scale works flow together in a soundscape where style and time blur. For decades, Katia and Marielle Labèque have traced the path of boundary-pushing piano art: at DE SINGEL too, they have demonstrated this repeatedly, from their striking appearance with Bryce Dessner in 2023 to Philip Glass' Cocteau trilogy in 2025. Each time they display an unstoppable curiosity and an ear for the new. With Wild is the Wind they do precisely that. Forgotten female composers such as Hélène de Montgeroult, Dora Pejačević and Margaret Bonds sound alongside Ravel, Bernstein, Mendelssohn and Nina Simone. Miniatures, jazz, salon music and contemporary compositions - what on paper diverges in time, style and context - gains in their playing an obvious coherence. The result? A soundscape in which canon and boundaries blur. Where time and style do not matter. And where the Labèques occasionally just go completely wild. Program: order and works to be double-checked with Marc Cardonnel.
