Nelson Goerner - Schumann / Händel / Strauss / Schulz-Evler
- Format
- Digital
For his tenth solo recording for Alpha Classics and Outhere Music, Nelson Goerner returns to a composer he particularly values: Schumann - here with the Davidsbund, the imaginary music society that Robert Schumann founded to battle the "Philistines", musicians such as Rossini, Bellini and Donizetti who were regarded as decorative and traditionalist. A few days after August 14, 1837, the date of his engagement to Clara, Schumann began working on the Davidsbündlertänze. Between idyllic dreams and passionate rebellion, Goerner can here fully develop his pronounced sense of musical storytelling. He also devotes his subtle musicality to Händels 21 Variations on the Chaconne in G major, published in 1735 under the title Suite No. 2. Viennese grace and virtuosic intoxication conclude this recital with the arabesques on "On the Beautiful Blue Danube" by Johann Strauss Sohn in the arrangement of the Polish composer Adolf Schulz-Evler (1852 / 54-1905).
