More info
The Harmoniemesse is Haydn's last great sacred work. It combines liturgical solemnity with a glamorous orchestral setting characterised by wind instruments. The intimate, light-footed Missa brevis Sti Joannis de Deo, by contrast, symbolises an introverted faith. William Christie at the helm of Les Arts Florissants showcases these two sides of the composer with style and poetry, supported by a first-rate quartet of singers.
