The winners of IVC 2022 are announced!

After several prizes had already been awarded following the Semi-Final, the winners selected by the international jury after the Final on 2 July at the Muziekgebouw Eindhoven were announced on 4 July. The grand winner of the evening was the Russian tenor Andrei Danilov. He won both the Grand Prix of 's-Hertogenbosch and the Opera Prize, each worth a prize sum of €7,500.

The "Van Riemsdijk Prize" was awarded to the Duo (version for voice and piano, 2021) or the singer (version for voice and orchestra, 2022) who, according to the jury, best performed the compulsory piece by Bart Visman. The singers were free to choose whether to sing the Dutch or English version. The Belgian mezzo-soprano Linsey Coppens won this prize with her performance of Het goud van Vermeer.

Het goud van Vermeer

Since 2002, a commission for a compulsory vocal work has been given for the competition. The following Dutch composers have written pieces for the IVC: Micha Hamel (2002), Rob Zuidam (2004), Robin de Raaff (2006), Roel van Oosten (2008), Wilbert Bulsink (2010), Jeppe Moulijn (2012), Willem Jeths (2014), Monique Krüs (2016), Sylvia Meassen (2018). In 2021, Bart Visman composed the compulsory piece for the duo (2021) and the solo competition (2022). The Dutch composer composed Het goud van Vermeer to a text by Marc Pantus (with an English translation by Brent Annable).

Composer Bart Visman and lyricist Marc Pantus (himself a bass-baritone) wrote a song that relates directly to the experiences of a singer.

You have a date in your diary on which you sing a new work. You don't know it, you actually never know how much preparation it takes. And yet you manage, time after time, to make music with the orchestra, your colleagues and sometimes the choir. That seems self-evident, but it isn't. This song is about what a candidate feels at a competition.
