Locatelli: Violinkonzerte op.3 Nr.2 & 11

Locatelli is een van de meest indrukwekkende vioolvirtuozen van de eerste helft van de 18e eeuw. Tegenwoordig wordt hij ook wel de Paganini van de achttiende eeuw genoemd.

De composities die aan zijn instrument gewijd zijn, zijn sfeervol, kleurrijk en verbazingwekkend modern. Op het programma staan Locatelli’s vioolconcerten nrs. 11 en 2, afgewisseld met diens concerto grosso nrs. 11 en 6. Uitgevoerd door Isabelle Faust en Il giardino armonico onder leiding van Giovanni Antonini.

Locatelli’s werken op deze opname worden uitgevoerd door Isabelle Faust en het Milanese ensemble. Zij zijn overigens geen onbekende van elkaar. Zo namen zij al eerder in 2016 de integrale vioolconcerten van Mozart op.

Locatelli was one of the most impressive violin virtuosos of the first half of the eighteenth century. Considered today as a sort of Baroque Paganini, he left picturesque, colourful, strikingly modern pieces for his instrument. A few years after a Mozart collaboration that earned them worldwide acclaim, Isabelle Faust and the musicians of Il Giardino Armonico bring out the full narrative intensity of these concertos, worthy of the operatic stage!
