Concert

A moving concert about conflict, hope and humanity

From Ukraine to Gaza, and in so many other places in the world, people are once again confronted with fear, loss and hopelessness. That is precisely why the call for peace sounds more powerful than ever today.

With WAR & PEACE Altra Voce, the Kortrijks Symfonisch Orkest, Laidos, Qui-Vive and two soloists bring a concert that touches, confronts and at the same time gives hope.

This special project will be an intense musical experience. The carefully chosen works take the audience from confrontation and stillness to hope and connectedness; music speaks here where words fall short. Central to the programme is Dona Nobis Pacem by Ralph Vaughan Williams. This monumental score for soprano and baritone, large choir and symphony orchestra expresses in an impressive way a deep longing for peace. In addition, the choirs perform a capella Wie liegt die Stadt so wüst by Rudolf Mauersberger, a striking work written in the aftermath of the bombing of Dresden in 1945. The desolate devastation of war thus becomes immediately tangible. The final word belongs to Lili Boulanger, who died far too young. She died just before the end of World War I. Vieille Prière Bouddhique radiates spiritual strength and is an ode to life and universal connectedness.

WAR & PEACE is not an ordinary concert.

It is a musical call for humanity, tolerance and hope. An evening in which large choir, soloists and orchestra together bring a message that is, sadly, more topical than ever.

Do not wait too long: order your tickets today for this unique collaboration!
