Gregorian Treasures | Nix Immortalis
Saturday 5 December 2026, 15:00
Concert
In collaboration with the VOCES8 Scholars Ensemble
Winter has moments when everything seems to stand still. Snowflakes drifting through the last rays of the day. A frozen lake in moonlight. And then, towards spring: the first little flowers lifting their heads hopefully above the melting snow. In Nix Immortalis ('Immortal Snow') you hear the crystalline clarity of winter.
Wishful Singing and the VOCES8 Scholars Ensemble return with a winter edition of Gregorian Treasures. Following the success of this concert series in the Netherlands, France and the United Kingdom, they now present this special winter programme centred on Gregorian chant and early polyphony.
In the midst of the busy period leading up to Advent and Christmas, this concert offers a moment of rest and stillness, carried by the singing of two leading vocal ensembles. In atmospheric, historic venues throughout the Netherlands, the thousand-year-old monophony of Gregorian chant resounds, alongside the rich polyphony that developed from it in later centuries. Nix Immortalis is the musical equivalent of a vigil by candlelight—a hushed concert in which time, space and sound come together, and from which you step out calmly and with renewed attention.
