Three Characteristic Sonatas

For several years now, Carl Czerny - Beethoven's best pupil and the teacher of Franz Liszt - has been freed from the reputation of a pedantic teacher that his music pedagogical works earned him through centuries of work in music schools.
Yet this was only a fraction of his immense productivity. Numerous newly published scores and CD recordings have contributed to his new image. The Three Character Sonatas are characterized by the fact that they have only three instead of four movements, that they were composed around 1826 in relatively short time, and that they contain an ad libitum accompaniment for violin and violoncello - not an unusual practice at that time.
